How important is lingo to a business?
In the sales business, we all need to learn to talk-the-talk and walk-the-walk if you want to do business within certain industries.
How can you become educated on certain businesses and learn the language associated within that industry to incorporate into your presentation?
Here are some ideas:
- Industry selection-Choose the industry/niche you want to do business with.
- Homework-research companies offerings, Management bios, press releases and over all web research for that industry.
- Events-Attend tradeshows or webinars for the industry you want to do business with-this will allow you to hear others using the appropriate terms and language. If you are unfamiliar with a term, ask questions. People typically like to talk about their profession, especially to someone that shows an interest.
After you have completed your research, incorporate the new lingo into your sales presentation. Whether you are presenting at a webinar or putting together a complete program for a marketing campaign, your new language will provide a foot in the door.
Incorporate the newly acquired jargon into your conversations, presentations and any printed material associated with your marketing campaign.
Being prepared by learning the lingo about the industry you would like to do business with- will provide you trust and rapport with prospective and current clients.
